Henkel Granodine 606

The Granodine 606 process simultaneously degreases and phosphates steel, aluminium, and zinc surfaces. Applied by a three- or four-stage conveyor process or in a multi-stage cabinet wash, it leaves surfaces with a lightweight blue phosphate coating which provides corrosion protection and is an excellent base for paint. Immersion processing can also be undertaken.

Granodine 606 can be used to treat galvanised sheet, zinc die-castings (Mazak), electro-zinc (Zintec), steel, and aluminium, together or separately. The degreasing action cleans the metal surface clean of oils and grease, enabling the phosphating action to convert the metal.

The specially-formulated detergents included in Granodine 606 give powerful degreasing with minimum foaming and at low temperatures. Additional detergents are rarely needed with this product, unlike many competing phosphate processes. The resulting phosphate coating has a weight of 0.2 to 0.4g/m2.

The degreasing and conversion takes place in a multi-stage conveyor or box wash process, involving cleaning and phosphating by spray application of the Granodine 606 solution followed by water rinsing and a final Deoxylyte rinse. Application temperature is between 25-50C and spraying at 1-2 bar takes just 1-4 minutes.

Granodine 606 is supplied as a concentrated liquid which lends itself to easy handling by manual or automatic control systems. Dilution is approximately 11 litres in a 1000 litre water bath.
