Novaphos Z450 converts iron and steel surfaces to a heavy zinc phosphate coating, which inhibits corrosion and greatly enhances the adhesion of paint. The solution is applied by immersion and leaves behind an absorptive coating which is stable to subsequent treatment with protective fluids.
Novaphos Z450 is supplied as a heavy liquid with a faint green colour. Diluted to just 0.4% (40 litres per 1000) and applied at 80-90C for 5-15 minutes, it imparts a durable zinc phosphated surface to ferrous metals.
For effective phosphating, the surfaces being treated should be cleaned and thoroughly rinsed before application of the Novaphos Z450. After treatment, the work should be thoroughly rinsed with water, preferably hot water, and immediately dried.
The resulting phosphated surface offers high corrosion resistance and acts as a key for subsequent paint finishes, giving improved adhesion and durability of the paint.
